EXHIBITION PROJECT 2024
Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the father to the third and fourth generation
This bible verse was repeatedly recited to me by my maternal grandmother. Having moved from Barbados to London in 1954 After the Nationality Act of 1948, giving citizenship to all British Colonial subjects, and an encouragement to migrate to the UK after the end of the Second World War.
This project is a personal investigation into the events that transpired across my family, but that could be mapped on the experience of the hundreds of thousands who arrived in the UK during this time period, and how grand cultural narratives shaped the past and present perception of the people that experienced it.
